Flying in

One thing to know before you land: the airport belongs jointly to France and Switzerland, and it has two separate exits. Leave through the French sector and you drive straight into Alsace. Leave through the Swiss sector and you find yourself in Basel, with a border to cross again.

From North America there is no direct flight. Connect through Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Paris or Zurich. Zurich and Strasbourg airports both work as alternatives, around two hours away by road.

Driving in France

Book an automatic if you need one. Most rental cars in Europe have a manual gearbox, and automatics sell out early. This catches out North American visitors more than anything else.

Licences. EU, UK, US and Canadian licences are accepted for a short visit. Your hire company may still ask for an International Driving Permit, so check with them before you travel.

Tolls. The motorways you will use are toll roads. Credit cards work at every barrier — keep the ticket you take when you join.

Crossing into Switzerland. You do not need to. Every route we give you stays on the French side, so no Swiss motorway vignette is required. If you do plan to drive into Switzerland during your stay, check that your hire agreement allows it.

The last few kilometres climb gently along the edge of the forest, on a narrow road with no street lighting. Take it slowly: deer cross here, and so do cyclists. Allow a little more time than your satnav suggests, especially after dark.

In winter. We are at 550 metres. Real snow is rare in the Sundgau, but winter or all-season tyres are worth having between November and March.

Two 22 kW Type 2 chargers are available: one in the courtyard, one at the flower farm 50 metres away, which we use during receptions when the courtyard is cleared of cars. They draw first on the hamlet’s own solar panels. A flat contribution of €10 applies per charge.

Electric bikes charge for free on site, on solar power. Just plug in.

Long vehicles can turn in the courtyard or the car park, except when the car park is full. Let us know in advance if you are arriving by coach.

Reduced mobility. The car park has no guaranteed step-free path, but cars can drop passengers directly in the courtyard or at the hotel door, where access is level. Tell us what you need before you arrive and we will arrange it.

By train

The closest station is Swiss: Vendlincourt, in the canton of Jura, 8 km and 11 minutes away by road. It sits on line 238 between Porrentruy and Bonfol, run by the Chemins de fer du Jura, and connects to the Swiss federal network at Porrentruy.

From Paris, London or Brussels, the practical route is the TGV to Belfort-Montbéliard, then an hour by road.

No bus or tram serves the final stretch.

By bike

The Sundgau and the Alsatian Jura are cycling country, and a good number of our guests arrive on two wheels. The hills are real: come with decent legs, or an electric bike.

No ride-hailing service covers Oberlarg reliably — no Uber, no Bolt. We work instead with local taxi firms: airport transfers, group shuttles, late-night runs.
